Three Meshes, One Aperture
Blocked gutters cause more damage than most people expect, from overflow down the fascia to dry leaf litter sitting where an ember can find it. At Leaf Free Gutter Guard, we make our gutter guard products in three materials, all manufactured in Australia, so the mesh can be matched to the roof rather than the other way round.
All three share the same 2mm aperture, which is the measurement that decides whether gumnuts get through. Where they differ is in strength, weight, fire rating and cost. Every one of them bonds down with 3M VHB tape and finishes with our primers, sealants and tools.

Choosing the Right Mesh
Four things usually decide which material suits a roof.
Bushfire risk & whether a BAL rating applies
Roof profile, pitch & gutter width
Tree cover overhead & the debris it drops
Budget & how long the mesh needs to last
316 Stainless Steel
316 stainless is our premium mesh and the one we recommend where conditions are harshest. It's the grade used in marine environments, so salt air, harsh sun and heavy debris loads don't shorten its life the way they would a lesser material.
It's designed to meet BAL-40, which makes it suitable for high bushfire-risk areas, and it carries a warranty of up to 20 years. If you're near the coast, under heavy gums, or in a fire-prone area, this is the mesh to specify.
Poly Coated Aluminium
Our aluminium mesh is powder coloured and then polycoated, a two-step finish that protects the mesh structurally while keeping the colour looking right for years. That second coat is what stops the chalky, faded look cheaper aluminium mesh develops.
It's lighter than stainless and easier to handle on long runs, which matters on a large roof. It's also designed to meet BAL-40 and is warranted for up to 15 years.
Fibreglass
Fibreglass is the most economical mesh in the range and the easiest to cut and shape on site. It handles awkward roof geometry well, and it won't corrode.
It suits homes away from high bushfire-risk areas where the main concern is leaves, birds and blocked downpipes rather than embers. For anything with a BAL requirement, choose stainless or aluminium instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
A 2mm aperture is small enough to hold back gumnuts, seed pods, twigs and leaf litter while still letting heavy rain through. Wider mesh may look similar but lets the smaller debris straight into the gutter.
